Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that is composed of many different symptoms. The primary symptom is pain and tenderness in multiple areas of the body. This is often linked to fatigue, sleep disorders, digestive problems, and depression. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are considered to be overlapping disorders which many consider to actually be the same illness. Dr.Khan has developed an aromatherapy formula called Fibromyalgesic and an herbal formula called FibroTea for these conditions.

Many people consider these conditions to be psychosomatic in origin because people suffering from these conditions can look healthy and normal from the outside, and yet complain of so many different symptoms. These symptoms can include mental symptoms such as brain fog, forgetfulness, spaciness, depression, moodswings, anger, and extremes in behavior. Unfortunately, as a result many people with this disease are viewed with skepticism by medical practitioners and lay people alike and are often branded as hypochondriacs.

Anxiety and depression are hardly rare, especially these days. However, if these situations are accompanied by chronic pain throughout your body, if even a slight touch causes pain and discomfort and if you’re having problems concentrating and remembering things, you may be suffering from fibromyalgia.

This is a condition that affects approximately 3% of the population, and the overwhelming majority of victims are women. There is no cure for this condition at present – mainly because medical researchers are not clear what it is – but there ways of providing chronic pain relief.

Those things are being diagnosed in women younger and younger. I was curious to know if anyone thought maybe HPV could be an underlying cause no one thought of.

I am a 23 yr. old female and have been living with fibromyalgia and rheum. arthritis for about 2 1/2 years. It all happened after the birth of my daughter. These conditions affect my every day life so negatively that i have trouble performing the easiest tasks. I’m on multiple medicines for these conditions, but nothing eases my pain. I’m on pain relievers as well, but the barely even take the edge off. anyone else dealing with this? What should i do? pain management doc?

I’d like to verify I haven’t been misdiagnosed before pursuing treatment.

Drugs for Fibromyalgia?

A little background: I have been really sick since the birth of my son (17 months ago) and have seen so many doctors. I was finally recommended to a Rheumatologist who thought my symptoms were Sjogren’s Syndrome. I was also tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis but all tests were normal.
Today I had a check up with the Rheumatologist again and he said he thinks it might be fibromyalgia because I have a family history of it. He wasn’t too confident of that diagnosis though so I’m not sure what to think.

Getting to the point: He wanted to put me on Cymbalta but I tried that before and I can’t handle it so he put me on Lexapro. I was on Lexapro after my son was born for Post Partum Depression. Isn’t that just for mental type depression? I mean it isn’t generally used for physical pain is it? He also put me on a muscle relaxer/pain reliever, Movic (I believe that’s what it’s called) so I could get some sleep at night. Has anybody taken these or similar drugs before to treat fibromyalgia? Did you get any relief at all? He also recommended I start physical therapy for some joint pain? Has anybody found success with that?

I have a neice who has Fibromyalgia and Lupus and has been living with it for quite sometime. The medications she takes is Medrol, Imuran, Plaquenil, Boniva and Tylenol #4 (For Pain). She fights with depression and often states that she is in pain ALL THE TIME. While, I do not doubt what she says because she has the physical symptoms. Twisted fingers (such as in Rheumatoid Arthritis), constant swelling, etc. However, here lately, her specialist has prescribed her “muscle relaxers” such as Soma, Neurontin and even Xanax, all of which, she states she has taken 1 or 2 times. When I ask her why doesn’t she take them, she states that she doesn’t like to feel “down”! She states that when taking them she feels drowsy and she feels like she is in another world. And, the next day upon awakening, she doesn’t feel like herself. My question to the yahoo community is, does anyone know of any other medication or any other way to treat this horrible, horrible disease. More recently, she has been talking about not taking her medication at all, NONE OF IT! She states that she is tired of taking all medication and she can’t remember her life without pain! She takes the tylenol #4 3x’s per day (physician ordered) and that does seem to help her somewhat. However, she is seeking a physician in the Michigan area she says that will really, really treat her and not just want to throw more pills @ her. As stated, does anyone in the yahoo community have anymore answers? Maybe there are herbal remedies? Maybe there is another medication that can be suggested? My more urgent concern is that she seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into depression. And from a few of my friends here in the area, I am told that some people with chronic illnesses tend to fight with depression? It never hurts to ask and would greatly appreciate any answers!!!
