I have moderate rheumatoid arthritis and am taking methotrexate and Humira. Is a hysterectomy a good idea?
I am happily married, 32 years old, with 2 great kids already. My doctor says that I absolutely MUST NOT get pregnant. I have some menstrual issues as is (heavy bleeding, sever cramping, family history, etc.) but nothing that major. I want to know if a hysterectomy might be the way to go, since any pregnancy for me will result in birth defects, possible miscarriage or could even cause my death. I already take a lot of medications and have had issues with birth control in the past. Please help me out here. I’m stuck.

I have RA and take methotrexate and Remicade. I was having the same menstrual issues and it was determined that I had endometriosis. I had a hysterectomy at age 35 and it was the greatest thing I could have done. You will probably have to stop taking a lot of your meds before the surgery so just talk with your doctor about that. Good Luck.
