Does rheumatoid arthritis go into remission without medicine?
My doc said I have Rheumatoid arthritis. I had all the symptoms. Couldn’t get out of bed in the morning. My feet, knees. back, arms, and hands all hurt very bad. I could barely get around. I never went to a rheumatologist because I dont have insurance. He put me on Prednisone and it was a miracle drug. I quit takin it once and symptoms returned in 4 days. This time I quit it to see if my symptoms came back and its been almost 2 week and I have no symptoms. So could I be in remission without meds or what?

I have had RA since I was 18 and now am 27. It sucks doesn’t it? Prednisone is just a quick fix to this disease. All it does is relieve the swelling and siffness temporarily and after the med gets out of your system you will most likely be in pain once again. But while you are on it does seem like a miracle drug because you have so much more energy exc. If your RA is only mild RA then your prednisone may have given you relief until your next flare. Not having health insurance is really sad when you have RA. There are soooo many grat drugs out for this disease now! I have tried them all….seriously! Enbrel is a biological drug that you give yourself through injections once weekly, humira is similar only you take it once every two weeks then there is remicade that is an Iv infusion every 6 weeks or so which is determined by your dr. Most people with moderate to severe RA will take one of these biological drugs in combo with methotrexate or arava. I found that I do best with Enbrel and Arava. I will occasionaly take prednisone when needed for a flare. But not for long term use. It can cause bone deteriation and sugar elevations. I became very dependent on it at one time in my life and gained quite a bit of weight and played hell getting off of them. I feel that if you are using them to help with a flare it is ok but not long term. I hope that you can get health insurance! These new biological drugs are really the “miracle drugs” (enrel, humira, remicade) I would love to be of more help to you if possible. If you are newly diagnosed you are going to be having quite a difficult road ahead of you. Please feel free to e amil me at any time. ( mirandadjohnson@yahoo.com) There are so many more things that I can tell you about this disorder! Foods to avoid exc. anxiety issues relating from the RA! I hope I was of some help!
Yes, RA sufferer’s can go in and out of remission at times when the reason isn’t really known. Maybe you are just happier and this has something to do with it, but I do the same thing. Mine sometimes goes into remission by sometimes just psyching myself into it. Then there’s the times when I can’t manage the mouse on my computer. Sometimes I know ahead of time just by the way I feel. When I start getting overtired at doing some of the simpler things I know it’s time for the rheumatoid factor to start doing it’s thing. This I use to put a jump on the doctor’s if I’m out of medication, which is usually every time I need it. I don’t do well on the steroids cuz they play with me emotionally, but there’s nothing else that works as well. Good luck with living with your RA and God Bless
