Does anyone here have a child with severe leg pain from growing?
My daughters pain in her leg is so severe that the doctor decided to take a x-ray to make sure she doesn’t have bone cancer or rheumatoid arthritis. While I am waiting to hear from the doctors, has anyone had a child that experienced this type of pain in the calf area. The front that is.

Is it shin splints? Those can get so bad that they can cause bones to break.
I used to get this pain all the time when I was growing up! My mam used to ignore me saying it is just growing pains. Although painful the pains do go when you reach late teens.
Yes – my granddaughter (10 yrs. old)has suffered w/leg pain that woke her during the night, turned her from happy, smiling child into whining, easy-to-tears, lethargic, no energy child. She had battery of tests done ( incl. x-rays, blood workup, you name it) We gave Aleve at bedtime and had success in helping her sleep. Heat also gave some relief. Diagnosis: “growing pains”. She has grown out of it and seems normal/happy once again. WHEW!!
Granted, I’m quite a bit older than your child, but I had leg pain at the age of 27 and it turned out to be a leg clot. An ultrasound may be warranted.
Yes. I had it since I was a very young child. I wake up at night from it. I’m almost 19 now and it still hurts like crazy once in a while. Mostly after my pain, like a day or so, then it rains or snows…. Sometimes it helps to just warm my legs extremly. Like roll in a blanket….
It can’t be growing pain for me, because I haven’t grown anymore since I was 13.
The Doctors did some x-rays and stuff on me aswell ….but they couldn’t find anything.
I actually as a child went through the same thing.
My pain was so sever some days I couldn’t walk, I had to have lots of test to see if there was something serious behind the pain.
It was growing pains, in some children they attack the front calf (shin) and can debilitate the child.
Regualr exercise helped me, like going for walks with my mom and streching.
It could be restless leg syndrom (I have that also) if it bothers her at night more or when she sits for a long time like at a movie then that could be a culprit.
A lot of people brush off growing pains because they sound harmless, but for a child it is very serious.
Feel free to email me (thebengalsfan04@aol.com) I will try to give you more tips. It was a hard time in my life but I did grow out of it. I wish you the best of luck.
I”m 29 and have had leg pains all my life and the Dr.’s have always told me that they were growing pains. They’ve done all the test’s in the world and nothing showed up on them. But the one thing that did help was Tylenol.
( I Did find out though that Later in LIfe I had a syndrome called “Velo Cardio Facial Syndrome” There was nothing really they could do for it but it was nice knowing that the leg pain was related to the Velo Cardio Facial Syndrome. )
“Major Helps”
The other thing’s that helped my leg pains and calf pain is a cold pack or a rice bag that with the rice bag you head in the microwave for a few minutes depending on how big or small they are. You can just get those at your local Walgreen’s store.

Plus the other thing that helps depending on how old your daughter is is Muscle Relaxor’s, and depending on the diagnosis from your Dr. Hope these helps. I hope they find the cause of this leg pain for your daughter. That will be a miracle!
When I was little my shins would hurt so bad the pain would wake me up in the middle of the night. What always worked for me was massaging it and a nice hot bath. it relaxes the muscle.
