Question by Sayhello969: What is a new medication that starts with a “L” that treats rheumatoid arthritis? See below?
My doc wants to prescribe this new medication but I can’t remember the name. I know it starts with a L. He said it’s not an anti-inflammatory or a steroid but it’s a separate class of drugs that works on the nerve endings.

Rheumatoid arthritis treatment is primarily aimed at symptom relief, as there is no cure for this disease. Initial medicine given in RA is usually non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. RA being an autoimmune disease, it is caused by the confusion of white blood cells in understanding body’s own healthy tissues as foreign bodies and producing chemicals to kill them, which cause pain and inflammation. NSAIDs control these chemicals and thereby reduce pain and inflammation. Over-the-counter NSAIDs are ibuprofen and naproxen sodium. Stronger NSAIDs are available by prescription.

Gold is one of the Disease Modifying drugs used in RA. today methotrexate is the “gold standard” againt which other treatments are measured. Gold given by injection works but is less popular than other drugs, oral gold is less effective and is seldom used.
